Ukraine authorities accuse 4 appellate judges of bribery – JURIST


The Nationwide Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Workplace accused on Thursday 4 judges from the Kyiv Courtroom of Enchantment of graft totaling $35,000. 

Based on NABU, the cost occurred on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, when one of many accused judges was given $35,000 in trade for a positive judgment on an enchantment of a property seizure order imposed on a personal firm wherein the 4 judges had been sitting. The decide who acquired the bribe allegedly stored $10,000 and gave $25,000 to be divided between his three different colleagues. Throughout a search of the judges’ residences, state detectives allegedly discovered and seized the funds.

The judges have been charged beneath Article 368 and Article 28 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Article 368 pertains to bribe-taking by an official, with regular bribes punishable by a positive or imprisonment for a time period of two to 5 years and gross bribery punishable by imprisonment for a time period of 5 to 10 years.  Article 28 offers with aggravating components for crimes dedicated by a bunch of individuals, a bunch of individuals upon prior conspiracy, an organized group or a prison group. Ukrainian News cited regulation enforcement sources claiming that the 4 judges had been Deputy Chairman of the Kiev Courtroom of Enchantment Viktor Hlynianyi, and Judges Yurii Slyva, Ihor Palenyk and Viacheslav Dziubin. 

Corruption remains rampant in Ukraine, with lawmakers, judges and different officers having lately been charged. In 2022, Transparency Worldwide ranked Ukraine 116 out of 180 when it comes to corruption.
