Indonesia election watchdog summons president’s son and VP candidate Gibran for alleged marketing campaign violation – JURIST


Indonesia’s election watchdog Tuesday summoned Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the son of President Joko Widodo and the operating mate of the main presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, for questioning on an alleged marketing campaign violation.

The Common Election Supervisory Board (BAWASLU) reportedly summoned vice-presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, alleging marketing campaign violations associated to exploit distribution throughout Jakarta’s car-free day.  The coordinator of BAWASLU’s Breach Dealing with and Information Info Division, Jakpus Dimas Trianto Putro, alleged that Gibran failed to seem earlier than BAWASLU for clarification regardless of two invitation makes an attempt. Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who was reportedly disinterested in politics and targeted on entrepreneurial endeavors, grew to become the mayor of Surakarta in Central Java in 2021, following in his father’s footsteps. Regardless of his earlier reluctance, Gibran is now operating for vp within the 2024 basic election alongside presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto of the Gerindra Get together.

The 2024 General Election in Indonesia is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, 2024. This election encompasses the choice of the President and Vice President, Members of the Home of Representatives, Members of the Regional Consultant Council (DPD), and native legislators. In complete, 18 nationwide and 6 native political events within the province of Aceh are collaborating within the 2024 election.
